SMS: Safety Management Systems

Trinity Safety Group's Safety Management System (SMS) is aimed towards organizations that are looking to set the bar for their industry and develop a world-class safety culture. The SMS process is structured to encompass all aspects of a complete safety culture. SMS will address the hard science of safety, evaluate the safety systems within the organization and coach management on effective leadership techniques. Because we understand that every organization is unique, Trinity Safety Group's SMS process will be tailored to fit each client.

The first step of the process is to complete an assessment of the current safety culture of the organization. This initial assessment is used to set a baseline of exactly where an organization's safety performance and culture currently stand. The initial assessment will be completed using a variety of methods that may include, but are not limited to, measuring incident rates, operating procedures, management's leadership, employee competency and training programs. 

Upon completion of the baseline assessment, Trinity Safety Group's team members will organize and evaluate all data that is collected. The information obtained from the evaluation is then presented to the management team. The management team and Trinity Safety Group will establish a list of areas that are in need of improvement based on the information collected in the baseline assessment. This meeting is not only informative in nature for the management team, but also gives them the opportunity to ask any questions that they may have at this point.

Using the items identified as areas needing improvement, Trinity Safety Group will assist the management team in establishing goals for improvement. These goals are cooperatively developed and will be broken down into three types by duration:  short-term (6 month), mid-range (6-18 month) and long-term (18-36 month) and will be developed with the idea of Specific, Measurable, Attainable Realistic and Timely or SMART goals. The use of SMART goal-setting will assist in the assurance that all goals will be attained.

Once a baseline and SMART goals have been established, Trinity Safety Group will perform a Gap Analysis. The Gap Analysis will provide information on potential steps and directives that can be used to attain each goal. Understanding that every organization is unique, we will provide multiple options for review.

Upon completion of the Gap Analysis, we will meet with the management team to discuss the results and develop the Plan of Action for proceeding. We will work through and exhaust every option to ensure the Plan of Action is the most effective and efficient in reaching the goals that have been established.

It is now time to take the Plan of Action and begin implementation into the organization. Simply put, this is where we make the action plan come to life. With the implementation process now complete and the operation running, it is vital to Monitor and Measure your organization's safety culture and performance. Monitor and Measure will allow your organization to gauge the amount of change that is occurring and will identify areas of improvement. Trinity Safety uses our newly developed Monitor and Measure methods to ensure that the SMS will optimize the effectiveness and efficiency of the process.

Sustainability of a successful safety process is one the most challenging aspects. SMS accomplishes this feat by using the Evaluate and Evolve method. This is achieved with periodic audits of the process by both Trinity Safety Group's team and the organization's management team. Trinity Safety Group has developed specific methods that are used to effectively audit the organization and can suggest different strategic improvements to the SMS process.
